Welcome to my post as a guest designer for Linnie Blooms. I met the lovely Linda Barutha – owner of Linnie Blooms – online when she had a design team call. I feel honoured to have been chosen as a guest for a creative mind like her. She sent me some of her unique Mixed Media supplies to play with.

The canvas pieces she offers in her shop are very sturdy and really nice to use as small pieces in an art project. She offers larger sizes too, those are sewn together and filled with an even more sturdy inlay.

I used all the blank with my favourite paint of the summer 2013, the Marabu glass tattoo paint. But before I show what I painted I start with the base of my work, a blank and rough burlap I have got from a german manufacturer, Walter Kern. I found a vintage emboidery hoop from my grandmother in my stash and traced the size of the hoop to the burlap:

Then I covered the burlap with white gesso to get a neutral background.

The blanks Linda sent me looked like that:

Like I said I painted them with Marabu glass paint. I really love the paint because it stays translucent and I can see the structure of the canvas shine through. Plus it’s really vibrant! You can see the nice transparency in the close up:

I added some metallic fabric paint to the edges of the canvas pieces to frame them, then I sewed my pieces to the painted burlap, glued some foil die-cuts from Spellbinders to the piece and added some yarn in a random fashion with my sewing machine.

I really like the whole thing! It reflects my favourite Colours of summer 2013. The aqua, green and teal stands for the ocean and my garden. Both are places I love the most, especially during summer.

My favourite place is in a quiet corner of the garden at the small fountain I have installed two years ago:

I have my very own grumpy water spirit. I show him all my work this summer, and he seems to be pleased.

I hope you like it.
