Todays fiddle friday will tell you a little bit about german traditions. Yesterday the english speaking world celebrated Halloween, and kids went from door to door asking for sweets. In Germany we have a similar tradition, called „St. Martin“ and kids do the same thing, but for a completely different reason. For more english please scroll down.
Gestern wurde ja in USA Halloween gefeiert. Als Verkleidungs-Freak schaue ich mir immer gern die tollen Kostüm- und Dekoideen der Amis an. Aber mit den Kindern von Tür zu Tür zu ziehen um nach Süßigkeiten zu fragen käme mir nie in den Sinn, es sei denn wir feiern St. Martin.
Ich weiß, diese Tradition der Martinssinger ist auch in Deutschland nicht überall auf die gleiche Art und Weise verbreitet. In dem kleinen Ortsteil in dem ich wohne wurde das bereits begangen, als ich selbst kaum laufen konnte. An einem Samstag der zeitnah zum Martinstag liegt, spricht sich die ganze Ortschaft ab und alle Kinder gehen gemeinsam. Ein großer Pulk von Kindern mit Laternen, sowie Eltern die auf ihre Sprößlinge aufpassen, rollt durch die nächtliche Ortschaft.
Meine Oma hat an der gleichen Haustür an der ich demnächst stehe immer ihre mit Süßgkeiten gefüllten Tüten verteilt. Bis zum 9.11., den nächsten Martinssingen hier, erzähle ich euch noch mehr darüber. Heute zeige ich eine kleine Idee, wie man aus alten Joghurtdeckeln kleine Laternen für die Kinder basteln kann.
Halloween is an old tradition and most of the fun is watching kids asking for sweets. In Germany we have a tradition that may look similar, but the reason is different: The kids walk from door to door asking for sweets too, but they don’t call it ‚trick or treat‘, they do this as an act of kindness, following the footsteps of the saint Martin, who was a generous man and donated to the poor. So the collecting is a kind of charity. I love this idea.
An important accessory for the St. Martin singing is a lantern. Each kid carrys his own lantern, lighted with a candle or small light bulb. Even the songs they sing often are connected to their lantern. Today I show a quick idea how to turn plastic lids into such a lantern. I cann it ‚faux stained glass technique‘.
| For the stained glass effect you need some plastic lids (I collect the lids of cottage cheese), a StazOn stamp pad, a stamp with bold lines, a black permanent pen and glass paint (I used Marabu).
For an aditional effect I used goosebumps spray (Tsukineko) on the finished plastic. For the cutout of the lantern I used a Spellbinders die, this is up to you how you cut your window for the ‚glass‘.
First stamp your image and trace the line for the cutout. Trace those outer lines and a second line for the stained glass window effect. Add lines and connect the stamp image to the outer lines. This will give you the look of small glas pieces. (I did this on paper for better understanding)
Colour the ‚pieces‘ with glass paint or permanent markers. If you use markers, you may colour the image from the back to prevent smearing the StazOn.
Finish with goosebumps and let dry, cut the lantern window and glue the ‚glass‘ in place. |
Für die kleinen Laternenfenster habe ich die Plastikdeckel von Frischkäsedosen gesammelt. Außerdem benötigt ihr ein StazOn-Stempelkissen, einen Stempel mit dicken Linien, einen schwarzen Edding und Glasmalfarbe (Marabu)
Für einen zusätzlichen Effekt habe ich goosebumps Spray (Tsukineko) benutzt. Falls ihr das in eurem Stempelladen nicht bekommt sagt mir bitte bescheid, ich versuche Quellen zu finden.
Um das Fenster zu schneiden habe ich Spellbinders benutzt, aber man kann das natürlich auch mit der Hand machen.
Zunächst stempelt ihr das Motiv auf, dann zeichnet den Rahmen für euren Ausschnitt an, den verstärkt ihr mit dem Edding und zeichnet eine zweite Linie für den Rahmen.
Teile des Motivs mit dem äußeren Rahmen verbinden und den Rahmen unterteilen. das ergibt diesen Effekt, das Ganze würde aus vielen kleinen (Glas)Stücken bestehen. (Um es anschaulicher zu machen habe ich euch das auf Papier gemalt)
Mit Glasfarbe oder permanenten Marker ausmalen. Malt ihr mit permanenten Stiften, tut dies von der Rückseite um das StazOn nicht anzulösen.
Mit goosebumps Spray besprühen (optional) und alles trocknen lassen, in euren Ausschnitt kleben. |
Leider habe ich heute kaum Zeit um anständige Fotos zu machen, ich hole das im Lauf der Woche nach. Dann gibt es auch weitere Idee zu St. Martin. Ich freu mich schon drauf!
