Welcome to another sketch from the lovely Karan Gerber. This time I have been in such a hurry that my layout doesn’t look finished. But the more I scrap the more I feel I need to reduce the elements of my layouts to please my eye. This is one of the less is more ones for me. And it will be my first scrapped christmas present ever… I intend to give it to my mom. For more English please scroll down.
Heute mein nächstes Layout nach einem Sketch von Karan Gerber. Es sieht ein wenig „reduziert“ aus, aber ich stelle fest dass mir Seiten mit weniger Details immer besser gefallen. Außerdem wird dies mein erstes Weihnachtsgeschenk für dieses Jahr. Ich hoffe nur, meine Mama liest das Blog erst am 25ten…..
We had to work with this sketch. Isn’t it pretty? Karans sketches are alway a great pleasure to work with. Like I said so often, I am a beginner and eager to learn. Those sketches are so perfect for that!
I asked my daughter for a pretty picture of my little grandson Jake. She doesnt want me to show his face and so I pixeled it, I hope everyone is ok with that. To make a christmas gift for my mom I wanted to match the layout with her dining room, which is decorated in a greyish blue. I didn’t have matching papers, so I painted all papers with Brilliance stamp pads until they worked together.
Ich habe meine Tochter um ein schönes Foto meines kleinen Enkelsohns Jake gebeten, allerdings möchte sie nicht dass man ihn erkennt (was ich gut verstehen kann), darum habe ich das Gesicht verpixelt. Um die Seite als Geschenk für meine Mutter zu gestalten, wollte ich dass es zu den graublauen Tönen ihres Esszimmers passt. Keines meiner Papiere wollte das so recht hergeben, also habe ich alle so lange mit Brilliance Stempelkissen beschmiert bis es passte.
Please note: If you paint a scrappaper with Gesso it will bend. You can paint the back to help a bit with that bending. But do NOT try to flatten it with a hot iron! The gesso will make bubbles. If you like bubble.. go ahead.
Achtung: Wenn man Scrappapier mit Gesso bemalt wird es sich wellen. Um das etwas auszugleichen kann man die Rückseite auch anmelden. Auf keinen Fall sollte man versuchen das mit einem heißen Bügeleisen zu plätten- das Gesso wirft Blasen! Wer den Effekt mag… nur zu.
During my term on Karans designteam I learned so much! One thing that was very important for me was: A scrap layout doesn’t have to be perfectly flat! All details CAN be raised or bended. This will give the layout more structure. Plus: Glue is not as neccessary as I always thought! I am a glue maniac. If I fix something it has to stay that way for generations. But… no glue can also be fun and keep everything in place. Like staples (love them now!) or brads. After I met Karans team I got used to staples so much that I will use them a lot in the future!
Check the next picture for staples and some alterations of the photo: To make it match with the papers I also smeared Brilliance to the edges and used sandpaper on them. Now the glossy and clean photopaper fits much better into the rest of the layout.
For the bunting part of the layout I used some yewellery from my stash. Do you recognize the little birdie? Its a metal silhouette from the company „ice resin“ and is covered with Iced Enamel. For more information where you can buy and how to use it follow this link: ICE ICE BABY.
Das Vögelchen ist ein Metal-Charm von „Ice Resin“, einer Firma über die ich euch bald noch viel, viel mehr erzählen werde: Ice Resin, Iced enamels.
Das war’s schon wieder für heute. Jetzt muss ich nur noch einen Rahmen für das Layout finden. 12×12 Zoll sind keine gängige Größe hierzulande, aber mein Rahmungsladen wird sich dran gewöhnen müssen.
